5 Job Hunting Tips

Hi Hi Everyone! Long time no read. If your like me or soon to be like me a recent college grad then I know the job search can be a hassle and rough. Although as my family, friends and myself keep saying, you’ll find a job soon don’t worry. But while on your journey to finding a job I’ve come up with a few tips to help make the process a little easier

image1. Have an updated resume-Resumes will become your lifeline, they will become who you are in a sense.  By having an updated one it helps you greatly. This allows interviews to learn what your degree is, internships, jobs, accomplishments, and awards.  You can either update it yourself or go to your schools career center and have them help you make one.  If you do decide to take on the task of creating one by yourself please..PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD!!! I can not stress this enough. You don’t want to risk your chance of having your resume thrown to the side because of a misspelled words. I learned this the hard way myself, so just be sure to double up on spellcheck when making one.

2. Make a list of companies to apply to-By making a list you narrow down where you really want to apply to. I know sometimes you might be thinking but I want to apply everywhere. Nothing is wrong with that of course but so you won’t feel so overwhelmed start with the list first. Try writing down the major companies that have caught your eye from your field of study then go from there. By doing this it allows you to keep up with when you applied for certain positions and the companies they match with, just in case you get a phone call to interview with them.

3. Interview prep-Prepping for interviews can help you go a long way.  You can look up basic sample interview questions and go over them by yourself or you can either have someone help you. Writing down things that you might want to say can be very helpful too. Making sure that you do research on a company will definitely benefit you. Job interviewers look for that because they want to see if you’ll go the extra step and that your putting forth an effort into trying to really learn about the company. Trust me when you go for an interview they will ask the question, “So what do you know about our company?”. It’s a go to question so you want to make sure your prepared to give them the information that you have learned.

4. Check for new jobs frequently-The great thing about looking for jobs is that new ones come out everyday, you just have to check often to know what is out there. I know sometimes it can be tiring, but you never know if your perfect job is just sitting out there waiting for you to discover it.  Try and get your application in quickly because who knows they might call you in just as quick to set up an interview. Sites like LinkedIn, Indeed, and Monster post jobs daily, so be sure to definitely check those.  Try doing it at the beginning of your day this way you can put a great deal of energy into it. As the saying goes looking for a full-time job is a full-time job in itself.

5. Make a Cover Letter-This one can be optional but it’s never a bad time to use one. The reason I say this is because for some jobs I use a cover letter and some jobs I don’t use a cover letter. If you do decided to use one make sure you have about 1 or 2 handy so that  it can be sent with your application. Some jobs might require them and some jobs might not require them which makes it’s an optional choice. If you’re having a hard time trying to think of what to include in your cover letter go to your schools career center and get a sample, or you can look for some examples online which can be very helpful also. Make sure you proofread cover letters also, big thing to look out for. Whatever option works out best for you when it comes to cover letters I say go for it.

The job search is a tough road because so many grads are also looking for a good job. The main thing is to not stress about finding one because you will get one. Even if  your first job isn’t your dream job that first job can open the doors to that dream job that you want. So make the most of it and get the experience.  I know your early 20’s will be a little tough since it’s the beginning of finding a good job and having stability, but know that you will make it; you’ll make yourself and everyone around you so proud.  HAPPY JOB HUNTING EVERYONE!!!

6 Tips for Jordan Year

As my 23rd birthday approaches it has led me to think of some tips that most likely don’t cross our mind by this age but we should definitely start doing or thinking about.  So I decided to share a few things that I’ve come up with.

1. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

I know we live in a society where it’s a do everything yourself without help, but you know what sometimes you need help. Regardless if it’s offered or you ask for it don’t be afraid to take it. The little help that you do ask for just might help you out tremendously and go a long way down the line. Don’t be afraid to say I don’t understand and I need a little guidance. If your like me and always use to do everything on your on without any help then I know it can be hard but don’t turn it down. Take it even if you don’t want it, but in the end you won’t regret it at all and you’ll be glad that you took it.

2. Don’t be fooled by social media

Social media runs the world that we live in today. Ever body looks happy and it seems like their life is perfect, you hear about constant accomplishments, latest gossip, etc. Sometimes it might have you thinking that you don’t have your life together and that you need to step up your game a little…nope that’s not how it always goes. That’s just how a lot of people make it seem, everybody has their struggles whether big or small. They might not voice them but don’t that just because you don’t hear about them doesn’t mean there not there. Everybody goes through some form of struggles in their life. I’ve had a few people come up to me and even say it you seems like you really have it all together and then I tell them if you only knew my stress level you would think otherwise haha. So relax , life is life just because something seems perfect on social media doesn’t mean it is. You got this just take it one day at a time.

3. Explore the world

I always stress this and will continue to stress this, get out and explore the world. Regardless of where you go just go somewhere new whether it’s in the state, out the state, or a whole new country go see something you’ve never seen. You can either go by yourself but make sure your safe or you can go with a group of friends, whatever makes you the happiest. Don’t wait until its to late to try to travel because by then you might not have the time or the money to go. Some of you may think I don’t have that much money I only have a little, well take just that little bit and go see something. You don’t have to spend a whole lot of money it can be something simple. It’s the thought that counts and that you took the time out to say okay I’m ready to see this or do that or do this. In the end you’ll have memories and photos to last a life time.

4. Become good with money

My major weakness when it comes to money is books and food. I’m a huge bookworm and I love to eat, but I also have bills to pay. I know my budget on how much I can spend on food and books. Learning how to good and budget your money will help you out greatly in the future. You’ll learn how to save, what to invest your money in, and have good spending habits. I’m not saying you can’t spoil yourself every now and then by all means do. You just have to make sure you know where your money is going and not wind up struggling from paycheck to paycheck

5. Start your own business

I know I know some of you might be thinking what type of business can I start and where in the world is the money coming from to start one. You have a hobby that you really enjoy turn that into a business, you never know where it will take you. Blogging is a hobby of mine but it can also turn into a business either way I love it. No matter how small the business starts out you’ll love the outcomes because its something that your passionate about doing. People might give their opinions good or bad but it will be something that you can say you put your all into.

6. Pray often

So many things are going on in the world today that it makes so many people scared to even turn on the news and see what’s happening. Prayer can keep you sane and give you just enough peace that you need to get through this crazy world. Even if you feel like sometimes it’s not helping just keep doing it anyway, never stop. Everybody knows  that if you can’t rely on anybody else that you can always rely on God. He will never let you down no matter what. Continue to keep the faith that you have in him and don’t let it go.
